Strong surfactants

The Sirius effect:

Shifting the supply of strong surfactants, from outdated petrochemical technology to innovative sustainable technology. Sirius offers a growing number of strong surfactants that are both bio-based and biodegradable. Thanks to the thorough cleaning, these surfactants are very suitable for both industrial cleaners and consumer products. Also for the latest trend of low-water refill packs.

"Thorough sustainable cleaning with strong surfactants"

Extensive portfolio

Some cleaning jobs require a thorough approach with an effective cleaning agent. This applies, for example, to cleaning toilets, floors, kitchens and bathrooms, but also to industrial cleaning. As we all know it is important that cleaning is done thoroughly, effectively and safe. These cleaning agents contain strong surfactants, like AOS, LAS, SLS, SLES. This also applies to many detergents and personal cleaning products such as shampoo and hand soap. Fortunately, there are now more and more environmentally friendly strong surfactants, which are biodegradable and entirely produced on the basis of bio-based raw materials. Sirius International has an extensive portfolio of environmentally friendly strong surfactants with a wide range of properties (see our website).

Anionics

One of Sirius International's most notable strong surfactants is bio-based Britens SLS, or Sodium Lauryl Sulphate. The special thing is that Britens SLS is produced entirely from organic raw materials. This innovative surfactant is available in different chain lengths (C12C14, C12C16, C12C18 or as you like ). Solubility and cleaning ability are depending on this chain length with C12C14 which is the most soluble and C12C18 providing the highest cleaning power. In addition to the commonly available needle form, Sirius can also supply Britens SLS in powder and granulate.

Traditionally, SLS is often combined with petrochemical surfactants, such as Britens LAS and/or Britens AOS. These surfactants are still based on a more outdated technology. The addition of SLS improves the cleaning performance of these two surfactants. As a result, less anionic surfactants are needed in total for the same result. Britens SLS can even be applied without any use of these two more outdated surfactants. To reduce a potential irritation of SLS, an antihistamine can be added to further mitigate it.

In addition to SLS, Sirius offers a number of other bio-based strong surfactants. One of these is Ethoxybrite SLES, which like SLS is an anionic surfactant and it is not only sulfatated, but also ethoxylated. This surfactant is also produced from only natural raw materials, such as RSPO-certified palm kernel oil. Where most SLES suppliers  have only a non or partly bio product, we have applied the Sirius effect by having developed all components from sustainable sources. Sirius is extremely proud of having a 100% bio-SLES by having the ethoxylated group produced from bio alcohol derived from crop waste products and therefore not affecting the food chain. Furthermore the sulphur component is sourced as mineral.  By redesigning the SLES as a 100%bio product in partnership with our co-producers Sirius is now the proud supplier of the only 100%bio-SLES on the market.

Non-ionics

Two further 100%bio-surfactants from Sirius are Ethoxybrite EFA and Britens APG   Due to their non-ionic character, these are gentle cleaners, of which the Ethoxybrite EFA-series are more effective than the Britens APG-series.

Ethoxybrite EFA, also a 100%-bio product, is also produced with RSPO-certified palm kernel oil. As with Ethoxybrite SLES, all components of Ethoxybrite EFA were developed from sustainable sources, crop waste and not affecting any food chain. The product commonly chosen in detergents is Ethoxybrite C12C14.7EO but the length of the ethoxylated groups can be ordered to your specification.

Sirius is busy upgrading its Britens APG to an ‘organic’ status according to NOP or EU-Organic. Of course you can also choose our nonionic surfactants Ethoxybrite CS80 and Ethoxybrite LF400 which are made from both bio-based and petrochemical raw materials, or for the old-fashioned petrochemical surfactants Britens LAS and Britens AOS.

Low-water refill packs

Consumers are increasingly asking for sustainable products, looking at more aspects than the composition of the product itself. There is a growing awareness of the fact that products such as household detergents and shampoos consist of about eighty percent water, so that four out of five trucks are actually only transporting water. That is why demand from consumers for low-water refill packs is increasing. These contain powder, tablets or viscous fluids, which the consumer can then dissolve in water to turn it into a useful cleaning agent. Which then makes a huge difference in transport costs, CO2 emissions and packaging material. For such a sustainable product it is of course preferred when the ingredients are also sustainably produced. The surfactants from Sirius are therefore a good option. You can choose a surfactant in powder or granular form and a concentrated liquid also works well. Would you like to test this yourself for your company?

Again, feel free to request a few samples.
